Compilation of scholarly articles on the Western Fur Trade published by the Museum of the Mountain Man and Sublette County Historical Society. Softcover, 8-1/2" X 11", 120 pages.

The Rocky Mountain fur trade continues to fascinate all who are interested in American history. Hollywood created much of what we thought we knew of the mountain men, but through the years, historians and living history participants have diligently worked to bring about a truer image of the people and the era.

One of the latest efforts to increase knowledge and bring fresh perspectives to the Rocky Mountain fur trade is The Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal, published by the Sublette County Historical Society and the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale, Wyoming. This annual publication contains articles on well-known fur trader Jedidiah Smith, the inventory for Smith's Southwest expedition, Portuguese trapper Antonio Montero, the impact of honey bees in the advancement of the frontier, the role of mountaineers in Fremont's exploration, the federal government's effect on the early fur trade, and shelters of the Rocky Mountain traders and trappers.

Each article accepted for publication is well written, heavily researched and peer-reviewed. The people on the reviewing panel are top-notch in their field and include historians and material culture experts. The authors for this volume include: James C. Auld, Terrence Ian Dunn, Clay Landry, Gary Peterson, Doyle Reid, G. Gage Skinner, and Brad Tennant. The journal is nicely illustrated throughout with mostly original artwork and images.

The Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Journal is a source for substantive information with fresh perspectives on the Western fur trade.
